映画などの乱闘シーンでビール瓶による殴打をものともせずに戦うヒーローを見ることがある。果たしてビール瓶で殴られて本当に平気でいられるものなのだろうか？
法医学専門家であるベルリン大学のStephan Bolliger氏は、酒場の喧嘩による裁判の法廷で何度も意見を求められたそうである。「いったいビール瓶の殴打によって頭蓋骨にはどの程度のダメージが与えられるのだろうか？」と。
調査の結果、空瓶（40 J impact energy）＞満タンのビール瓶（30 J impact energy）＞頭蓋骨の順で強度は強く、ビール瓶で頭を殴れば頭蓋陥没となる恐れの高いことが示された。
